Jazz Improvisation Masterclass

Service Description
Build a personal soloing voice with a step-by-step process you can use on any tune. Guided by Dr. Beau Cornelius, this masterclass starts with melody-first improvisation and motivic development, then adds chord-tone targeting, voice-leading through ii–V–I, approach notes/enclosures (tastefully), blues language, and time feel that actually swings. You’ll learn how to structure choruses, use space, shape phrases, and create call-and-response; rhythm studies cover off-beat placement, triplet cells, and trading 4s/8s. We’ll apply the method to core repertoire (blues, Rhythm Changes, and a few jam-session standards), with live demonstration, guided play-alongs, and constructive feedback. Pianists/guitarists also get comping strategies; horn players and vocalists get articulation and lyric phrasing tips. Expect weekly backing tracks, lick-to-language drills, and short transcription “micro-studies” to internalize feel. Finish with a capstone performance plan and a toolkit to keep improving long after the class ends.

Cancellation Policy
All sales are final. No refunds after booking. Capacity: Only 10 seats per class; policies below ensure fairness and viability. Time zone: All timeframes are measured from the scheduled start in Eastern Time (ET). How to cancel/transfer: Email beaucorneliusmusic@gmail.com (or use your portal, if available). Timestamp is when we receive your message. If you cancel -- More than 7 days (168 hours) before: No additional fee. 7 days to 72 hours before: $25 cancellation fee charged to the card on file. Less than 72 hours before: $50 late-cancellation fee charged. No-show (no cancellation and no attendance): $50 fee charged. Fees apply per seat cancelled. Seat transfers (free): You may transfer your seat to another attendee at no charge up to 24 hours before class. Email the new attendee’s full name and email so we can update the roster. We don’t handle payment between you and the new attendee. No refunds or credits are issued on transfers. Within 24 hours, standard cancellation fees apply. Waitlist re-fill (no credit; fees waived): If you cancel and we successfully fill your seat from our waitlist, we will waive any applicable cancellation fee. No refunds or credits are issued in this scenario. If we cancel or reschedule: If Madrigal Music cancels the class in it's entirety, you may choose a full refund or a 100% credit for a future masterclass. If we reschedule, you may move to the new date or receive the 100% credit for a future masterclass. Minimum enrollment clause: We may cancel or reschedule if minimum enrollment isn’t met (rare). You’ll receive the refund or credit options above. Late arrivals: Arrivals 15+ minutes late may be declined entry out of respect for the group; no refunds or credits. Payment authorization: By booking, you authorize us to charge the card on file for any applicable cancellation or no-show fees. If a card is declined, an invoice will be issued and due upon receipt. Illness & emergencies: If you’re ill, consider a seat transfer (best option) or contact us so we can attempt a waitlist re-fill (fee waived if successful). Otherwise, standard fees apply.
